Session Description
Hematology/oncology pharmacy is facing critical staffing and recruitment challenges, particularly in traditional direct patient care roles. Between the increasing demand for specialized hematology/oncology pharmacy expertise, decreasing number of pharmacy students as well as residency graduates, and continued migration of mid/late-career oncology pharmacists, institutions are facing never-encountered challenges.
This panel discussion will explore the current workforce environment and challenges impacting direct patient care, operational efficiency, and sustainability. The panel will discuss the changing pharmacy school enrollment and resident graduate landscape; opportunities to invest in pharmacy students, residents, and pharmacists with no previous hematology/oncology exposure; and real-world examples of successes and failures with recruitment strategies.
